Our Haleakala Trip, April 21, 2012
The terrain up at the top of Haleakala - below you can see the volcanic cones in the crater.
The terrain was so different from one area to the next, here it's sandy and green, but turn around and it's black as lava, then it's rocky with plants. The perfect place for the person who wants diversity!
This is the famous Silversword which grows only on Haleakala
We were up there for the sunset, so it was getting colder and colder every new minute. That's Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa, on the island of Hawaii, over our shoulders! Yep! You see the coast of the island from up here! The island is very close to Maui.
This is the highest spot on Maui!
Below, another view of the island of Hawaii. Mauna Kea is the peak on the left, and Mauna Loa is the right one.
The mountain was surrounded by clouds, and since it was the new moon, we just took pictures of the sun setting behind the clouds.
